August 14th, 1936 - The Olympics first basketball gold medal was won by the United States as they beat Canada 19 - 8. The final was held in Berlin in an outdoor venue. The final game was held on a sand tennis court. A total of 19 countries participated.

August 14th, 1990 - The California Angels hit an inside the ballpark grand slam home run versus the New York Yankees. The Angles Luis Polonia hit the sprinting dinger off of Tim Leary of the Yankees, a team that he longed to play for. The Angels beat the Yankees that day 9 - 5.
