Today in Sports History August 3rd

On this day in sports history for August 1st, we go back to 1959 when Yankee catcher Yogi
Berra hits a home run in the all-star game of Don Drysdale. It was not until Derek Jeter 41 years later until another Yankee had hit a home run in the Mid-Summer Nights Classic. Yogi's home run was hit in the LA Memorial Coliseum, and become the difference in the win for the American League over the Senior Circuit 5-3.
Another notable even on this day is when Satchel Paige in 1948 pitched his first game as a starter in the Major Leagues coming over from the Negro League. The Hall of Famer pitched 7 innings for the Cleveland Indians, leading them to a victory over the Senators 5-3.

It seems that Sports Philosopher covers Yogi several times on this blog, but he just seems to be one of the most interesting characters of baseball's past. Yes there are tons of interesting characters, but Yogi keeps popping up on the radar when we search for baseball quotes, and history.
